While major disasters are not common, they can be devastating when they occur. Invariably, they overload the capability of most emergency response systems as well as other systems which we depend upon on a daily basis. This means that many people are going to be left to fend for themselves for a period of time, especially in the initial stages of a disaster.
District 45 is working with the City of Duvall, Riverview School District, and other organizations in the area to better prepare our community to cope with disasters. A major objective of this plan is to prepare citizens to have an active role through preparedness at home and in their neighborhoods. This is a work in progress and will evolve into classes and organization of neighborhood groups. Our initial effort will be to provide some basic information through this website.
Additionally, District 45 is participating with King County, the City of Duvall, and other jurisdictions in a Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, which includes a local plan, to address critical areas of our infrastructure that would be the most vulnerable in a disaster. By identifying and addressing these areas before a disaster, they will be less likely to fail in the event. This preventive approach, in most cases, will be much more cost effective. For more information, contact the Fire Chief at 788-1625 or go to the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan web page.

72-HOUR DISASTER PREPAREDNESS KITS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DUVALL FIRE DEPARTMENT
It is recommended that all households have at least 72 hours of survival supplies to sustain them in a major disaster. A major event would quickly overwhelm local emergency services and outside help would likely be several days out.
For this reason, Duvall/King County Fire District 45 and the Carnation-Duvall Citizens Corps have partnered to purchase these four-person 72-hour Disaster Kits at a quantity discount and pass that savings along to individual households in the community. They make a great gift, too!
