Fees for Transport

Fees for Transport

The Board of Fire Commissioners approved a resolution allowing for the collection of fees for services should a hospital transport occur. While this practice is new to the District, it is not a new practice throughout the area.

This endeavor is being undertaken to limit the financial burden on District residents and is an untapped source of revenue. The result of this operational change will be shared amongst all residents, in that it will allow the District to continue to provide funding for capital replacement expenses and operational costs.

While there is never a fee for a 911 response to your home or life critical hospital transport by Medic One, King County Fire District has chosen to charge a fee for non-critical patient transportation by KCFD 45 EMTs. A non-critical transport is considered one that can be handled by our EMTs and not a paramedic. The fee has been set to match the fee charged by private ambulance companies for the same service. Most medical insurance policies will offer coverage for this transportation cost, whether provided by KCFD 45 personnel or a private ambulance company.

We strive for excellent service and no surprises. If your situation allows options for transportation and/or hospital choices, firefighters will review those options with you before you are transported. A variety of factors determine transportation options. In most cases firefighters will explain why and by whom you are to be transported. In some cases, the options are limited.
